Class Descriptions
Dance with Me!
(Age 2-4)
This parent-tot class is a wonderful way to share the joy of music and movement with your child! This class uses play and imagery to develop musicality, coordination, listening skills, and creativity. Parents participate in class and help guide their children through the exercises. Props are often used, such as balls, hoops, mats and even drumsticks and bubbles to engage your child in a way that is fun as well as educational.
Combination Classes
Combination classes include a variety of dance styles for our younger students, taught in a nurturing environment. Exploring basic elements of ballet, jazz, and/or tap, these classes give students a strong foundation in dance and movement . In addition to learning basic positions and steps, dancers develop flexibility, coordination, and strength. Integrated with these physical concepts are the intellectual concepts of self-awareness, creative expression, teamwork, musicality, and self-confidence.
Ballet
A classical form of dance that provides a strong, solid technical base for related dance forms. This class utilizes barre and center work and progressions across the floor to develop the dancers’ strength, balance, and flexibility. Students will improve alignment and posture, learn important technical skills, and dance terminology. Ballet is widely considered the foundation for related dance disciplines like jazz, modern, and contemporary, and is essential to a dancer’s progress.
Tap
A truly American art form, Tap is an exciting style that focuses on music, rhythm and precision. It allows young dancers to "make some noise" with their feet, and classes aid with coordination, speed of movement, and producing clear tap sounds. Improvisation is key at advanced levels.
Jazz
This fun, upbeat style of dance stems from ballet layered with traditional jazz movements and done to energetic, popular music. Our jazz classes take many forms; from street jazz and hip hop to Broadway jazz and lyrical jazz. Classes usually begin with a warm-up, stretching and isolations followed by across the floor combinations and choreography. Emphasis is placed on energy level, style and stamina.
Hip Hop
This energetic class focuses on street-style movement. Warm-up includes isolations and cardio followed by fun, popular movement including elements of popping and a concentration on footwork. Choreography is fast-paced and fun!
*Placement will be based upon both the dancer's age, years of experience, and technical ability.
